MEXICALI, Baja California, June 5, 2008.- Argentina edged Canada in five exciting sets and advanced to the final four phase of the Women’s Pan American Cup. The score was 22-25, 26-24, 25-14, 21-25, 15-13.

Canadian Tammy Mahon led all the scorers of the match with 22 tallies while Ashley Voth and Tiffany Dodds contributed 18 and 17 points respectively.

The opponent of Argentina in the semi finals will be determined by the outcome of the match between USA and Puerto Rico. If USA wins, the South Americans will meet the Dominican Republic, but if the winner is Puerto Rico, then Argentina will meet Brazil.

“I am very excited about going to the final four’s round and keeping alive our chances of qualifying to the next year’s Grand Prix,” said Sabrina Segui of Argentina. “It was a very emotional match and both teams played 100 percent.”

“Our blocking was not as good as in the past few matches and our reception failed,” said Canadian Tammy Mahon. “We had been playing great matches and today was another one, only the outcome was not in our favour.. We have to give credit to Argentina”
